I miss the old E3, the week of shows E3
Straight from the source E3, got hyped for sure E3
I hate the new E3, Geoff Keighley’s E3
The more spread out E3, ads in my ads E3
I miss the short E3, the more condensed E3
I gotta say, not the facts but the thought of E3
See, I enjoyed E3, despite its flaws E3
And it was nice to have a dedicated week of E3
I used to love E3, I used to love E3
Now it’s lost all its luster man, the new type of E3
The fake E3 that doesn’t compare E3
The “Summer Game Fest” E3, a jumbled mix E3
I want the concept of E3, we still love E3
Can Keighleys be like E3 was E3
On a more serious note, E3 used to be multiple shows all taking place within a week of each other, from single companies displaying their own incoming output. Only the PC Gaming Show was of the variety kind. Now there are so many smaller, varied showcases, and so many of the previously large shows have stopped or moved to earlier or later dates. Don’t get me wrong, there ain’t anything wrong with the likes of Guerilla Collective or Wholesome Direct, they just aren’t for me. I like the franchises I like, and these smaller shows unfortunately aren’t very likely to contain any of them. Most importantly, I’m not a fan of the “Keighley’s”, as I like to call them. Mainly Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards. They’re stuffed with ads, many of them US-centric so even if I wanted to I couldn’t take advantage of whatever offer from DoorDash he’s selling. They’re too fast-paced in order to fit in more ads, and the ads themselves being included makes the shows drag on for longer than needed (latest Xbox show was ~75 minutes (excluding CoD showcase), while the latest SGF was 120 minutes). Speaking of ads, the dedicated shows (like Xbox) have no ads in them (aside from the fact that everything showcased are ads, but you get what I mean). And sorry, I’m just not a fan of Keighley’s way of hosting these shows, either. Overall, the new E3 format, a.k.a Summer Game Fest, is just too spread out and disorganized for my liking.
I miss the old E3, the week of shows E3…
